STUCK ON STUPID ALERT: MN Republican Blames Minorities for Bad Economy!

Minorities, I thought we went over this already!!  Haven't you learned by now?  We are to blame FOR EVERYTHING!!  Yes, that's right!  We are the root cause of everything "bad" in America.  Okay, wait!  I'm exaggerating.  We are not really to blame, just the ultimate "blame scapegoat."  Our color, our minority status, is commonly used by the ignorant, uneducated and racist to escape responsibility or accountability.  The latest example comes from Republican Representative Michele Bachmann of Minnesota.  Once again, another Republican is the culprit.  Real shocker there, right?

At a House Financial Services Committee hearing last Thursday, Rep. Bachmann blamed the economic crisis on the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) and “loans..being made on the basis of race, and often little else." (Source)  Of course, there is no evidence to support Rep. Bachmann's claims.  Another shocker right? 

Here's a clip of Rep. Bauchman's comments on the committee floor.  There were several offensive statements and allegations.   

Here was the Congressional Black Congress' (CBC) repsonse to Rep. Bachmann's comments:

It is clear from Rep. Bachmann’s comments that she believes that the bipartisan laws enacted over the past decade ensuring that minority communities have equal access to banking and other financial services are the cause of this financial situation. […]

There is no evidence to support Rep. Bachmann’s assertion that “minorities” caused the current financial crisis. Laws designed to open opportunities for equal access to credit do not require banks or thrifts to make loans that are unsafe or unprofitable. In fact, laws like the CRA mandate exactly the opposite. […] Additionally, research clearly shows that the majority of the predatory loans that have led us to this financial mess were originated by non-bank financial institutions and other entities that did NOT have a CRA obligation and lacked strong federal regulatory oversight. Shifting the blame for the current economic crisis to laws that allow equal access and opportunities to communities of color is ridiculous.

As members of the CBC, we simply ask if Rep. Bachmann’s position that it was lending to minority communities that caused the current financial crisis, represent the position of Republican Caucus? (Source)

STUCK ON STUPID ALERT: White People's Birth Right Was Stolen!

Just in case you missed it, minorities are to blame FOR EVERYTHING!!  Our latest crime is taking away the birth right of our fellow white Americans.  Shocked!?  Have no idea that such an atrocity was being committed by YOUR hands!?  Don't be.  I didn't know either.  Here I am, a black woman, living my life each day clueless.........clueless about my oppression of whites!  Oh, the shame I feel!  How will I ever be able to show my face in public again?

Syndicated radio host Michael Savage had this to say:  "I went through a sort of depression in my own life as a result of liberal social activism. They imposed affirmative action on me and stole my very birthright simply because I was white. They stole my birthright, and I could have gone under." (Source)

BEAUTIFUL BLACK: Disney's Dreamers Academy with Steve Harvey

LAKE BUENA VISTA, FL – Teens from across the country with big dreams and aspirations can be nominated during September to be part of the Disney’s Dreamers Academy with Steve Harvey class of 2009. One hundred high school students will be selected from among those nominated to participate in the academy Feb. 12-15, 2009, at Walt Disney World Resort.

An event created to inspire and enrich high school students, Disney’s Dreamers Academy will include workshops with Disney cast members and executives, sessions with entertainment celebrities and professional athletes, and time to enjoy the Disney theme parks – where participants can see, first-hand, the results of people who turned their dreams into careers as “Disney dreamers.” The student participants will learn about careers in everything from culinary arts to animation, set design and show production to the business of sports and more.

During the inaugural Disney’s Dreamers Academy in January 2008, some of the guest speakers were Chef Jeff Henderson, National Football League Hall of Famer Kellen Winslow, pop/R&B recording artists Fantasia and Keyshia Cole, ESPN commentator Stephen A. Smith and, of course, syndicated radio personality Steve Harvey.

The Disney’s Dreamers Academy class of 2009 will be made up of teens nominated between Sept. 1 and Sept. 30, 2008. Young dreamers – who must be enrolled in high school for the 2008-09 term – can be nominated by anyone, including parents, guardians, teachers, church members, social organizations – even themselves. Although a high GPA is not required, students must exhibit a desire to learn, perhaps needing only additional motivational support to excel. Nomination forms can be found at

A select panel of judges including Steve Harvey, community leaders and Disney representatives will choose the 100 finalists. The Disney’s Dreamers Academy class of 2009 will be announced in November 2008.

“We received more than 3,000 nominations for the first Disney’s Dreamers Academy in 2008,” said Meg Crofton, president of Walt Disney World Resort. “Due to that incredible response, we’re really looking forward to continuing the academy in 2009.”

Harvey said Disney’s Dreamers Academy “is about inspiring our young people who oftentimes don’t have the chance to be exposed to a variety of job skills and job opportunities and meet with people in the fields they’re interested in. We want to give our young achievers the tools to become overachievers – to make their dreams a reality.”

How to Fix the Economy

Barack Obama's economic plan as I understand will undo a lot of Reagan and the Republicans' mistakes with a combination of Clintonomics, Democratic ideals, and Keynesian economics. What made Clinton's economic policies so great was that he increased taxes in an effort to decrease the national debt which made the American currency stronger. This means that the American dollar went a much longer way in purchasing goods. Also, this is why, at the end of Clinton's presidency, the United States had a surplus of federal revenues. He promoted the job creation which is important (but I'll get to that in a moment). The most important part of Democratic ideals is that government should do more to help out working class citizens with social programs that benefits. And finally, Keynesian economics dictates that government should do more to regulate the economy so that business leaders don't create problems under the guise of serving the people.

Let's Get Back to Regulation

Simple enough, regulations will be put back into place to return a level of quality among products and services that was eroded in previous administrations. This would prevent the rampant abuse of trust by individuals in business who prefer to see their bottom line increase before they deliver substandard products that need to be recalled two minutes after they've been sold because they're killing people.

Fair Taxes

The loopholes created by Reaganomics that afford the wealthy opportunities to evade taxes will be closed. Hopefully, these loopholes will be closed entirely and completely. Also another problem with taxes is that the rich have the luxury of comparatively lower tax rates. There will be a return to the higher tax rates of the Clinton era and possibly the MUCH higher tax rates of pre-Reagan years.

The reality of the situation is that we've all been reminded of the greed of the rich. They're NOT doing their part to help the economy. Even if they were trying to spend money, they wouldn't spend enough to help the economy. How much food can a billionaire buy without giving most of it away? How many homes, cars, yachts, vacations, and so on can a billionaire purchase, reasonably? Giving kickbacks to the rich will not help advance the economy. So, why should they continue receiving the luxury of lower tax rates especially if it does little to nothing to help society?
