Emmett Till Historical Marker Vandalized

Emmett_Till_Marker

JACKSON, MS - Another news item that flew under the radar in recent weeks was the vandalism of Mississippi's historical Emmett Till marker.  The marker stood at the spot where Emmett Till's battered and bruised body was pulled from the Tallahatchie River in 1955.  Authorities suspect that the sign was ripped down by vandals during the night of Saturday, October 25th.  The matter is currently under investigation by the Tallahatchie County Sheriffs Department.

Sadly, this is not the first time Emmett Till memorials have been vandalized in the State of Mississippi.  According to the Emmett Till Memorial Commission:

"Last year, a roadside marker on U.S. Highway 49 in Greenwood in Leflore County was stolen.  It was replaced with another sign.   And, another sign in Tallahatchie County was damaged earlier this year." Source
