Yes, while the conservative base was patting itself on the back and giving each other high fives over the Republican vice presidential pick of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, the rest of the country was not so easily moved. We needed to know more about this unknown politico who introduced herself by giving a speech heavy on attack and bare on substance.
The fact that this VP pick was a woman would not be enough. The fact that she was a mom would not be enough. The fact that she had "executive experience" would not be enough. No, the rest of America (i.e. non-conservatives) needed to know WHAT her executive experience entailed and the manner in which she exercised it, the depth of her intellectual prowess and breadth of knowledge on domestic and international issues, and her ideological positions.
Somehow, this need of ours seemed to be lost on conservatives and Republican-leaning partisans. They fawned over this woman in a way that the rest of us could not and saw qualities and attributes in her that the rest of us did not. Most, if not all, conservatives went so far as to say that she was smarter, more accomplished and more American/patriotic than Senator Barack Obama. But with each passing day, each passing word and each passing crisis, she revealed herself to be anything but that.
The following video reveals how most Americans (with the exception of conservatives and die-hard Republican partisans) see Gov. Palin, especially in comparison to Senator Obama. She simply does not measure up in any meaningful way. We Independents and Democrats realized this early on. With that said: Who - or what party - is really the one out of touch with most Americans? I think we all know the answer to that question.
