On Tuesday, NBC unveiled its new show Momma's Boys. Produced in part by Ryan Seacrest, the show adds a new twist to the reality dating show genre.
NBC describes the show as centering "on three possessive yet loving mothers who must help their complacent sons choose the perfect woman - and ultimately poses the question: "Who is really the most important woman in every man's life?" After checking out the first episode, I'm not sure this description gives an accurate picture of the show.
The twist is not that the mothers will take part in the show by helping their sons choose a mate, but rather how much they're involved. In fact, the mothers are living in the same house as the sons' potential mates for the entire six weeks of the series. But even that isn't the major conflict or drama!
We all know that a reality series wouldn't be complete without either a homophobic or racist participant. To serve that purpose in Momma's Boys is Momma Khalood Bojanowski - aka Mrs. B. - JoJo's mother. This mother makes it clear that her son is to only date a white girl - no black women, Jewish women, Asian women, or any other minority woman need apply. The irony? She's a minority herself - she's of Iraqi descent.
