DALLAS - Last week, Houston running back Ryan Moats and his wife, Tamishia, were accosted in a hospital parking lot while on their way to see Ms. Moat's dying mother who was inside - minutes away from death. The perpetrator? A Dallas police officer. (Why am I not surprised?)
In an attempt to see his mother-in-law before she passed away, Mr. Moats and his wife rushed to the hospital. Like most people who find themselves in similar emergency or medical situations, Mr. Moats put on his hazard lights and attempted to get to the hospital as quickly as possible. In doing so, Mr. Moats ran a red light - a red light that was just feet away from the hospital he was driving to.
Witnessing the infraction, Officer Robert Powell ordered the Moats family out of the car at gunpoint once they arrived at the hospital. Despite repeated attempts to explain what was going on, the officer kept his gun drawn and refused to let the family see their dying mother in the hospital. Wrought with obvious emotion and grief, Ms. Moats ignored the officer's direction and headed inside the hospital. Mr. Moats was not as fortunate.
See what happened for yourself.
