I PICKED UP MY COPY THIS WEEKEND!!

This past Saturday, I purchased my copy of the highly anticipated "Vogue Italia" ALL BLACK July issue.  I purchased two copies, one for my coffee table as a show piece and the other as a life long keepsake.  I purchased the Jordan Dunn (coffee table) and Liya Kebede (protected keepsake) copies.  I still may go back and buy the other two covers (Sessilee Lopez and Naomi Campbell).   

Okay, here's the 411:  I purchased my copies for $15.95 (each) at Barnes and Noble.  I was able to get my set very easily and cheaper than I expected.  My copies were part of the first reprint.  Apparently, I'm one of the lucky ones because this doesn't seem to be the case in other parts of the country.  Some people are finding shortages at their local retailers or being charged more than the issue's cover price. 

THE GREAT NEWS: This issue has experienced such great demand, in both Great Britain and the United States, that it is in it's first reprint (with a waiting list at numerous worldwide locations).  You can read more about this off-the-charts demand and sales figures here.

NEWS FLASH:  The World Is Comprised Primarily By People of Color!!

Nonetheless, you will rarely see the beauty of these women showcased in the world's many magazines and news media.  If you just arrived to the planet Earth today and picked up any random magazine, you couldn't help but come away with the conclusion that the people who inhabit this land must all have pale skin and traditionally European features.  This is such a sad commentary on the current state of affairs today, especially when most people can simply walk outside their front doors and see the complete opposite of this centuries-old manufactured BS.

In the groundbreaking July issue of Vogue Italia, only non-white models will be present throughout the magazine's pages.  In a bid to encourage other magazines to diversify, Steven Meisel shot the entire issue featuring black models.  Newcomer dynamo Jordan Dunn will grace the cover of this historical issue. She recently had this to say about her experience thus far in the industry, "London's not a white city so why should all our castings be white? I go to castings and see several black and Asian girls, then I get to the show and look around and there's just me and maybe one other coloured face," she told the Evening Standard. "They just don't get picked. I hope it's because the designer just didn't think they were good enough as a model, but I don't know."  Ladies, regardless of the industry or social setting each of us finds ourselves in, doesn't this experience sound eerily familiar?
